Earth to Body: Autumn Session

Sunday September 23rd
10:00am - 4:00pm
$85.00 per Class
We welcome you to the garden to learn about its care, keeping, and bounty from the Garden Manager and Medicine Maker.

Garden: We invite you to join us as we begin to prepare the garden for the winter. Discuss fall seed sowing and saving, soil building techniques, and ways to honor the garden as it wanes. In a cyclical mirroring of “Spring cleanup”, learn the importance of autumn clean up, and of preserving ecosystems by leaving plants uncut and not raking leaves out.

Harvesting: In the fall plant energy retreats into the earth. This is the time to harvest root medicine! Learn the etiquette of this harvest and connect with Earth energy. Explore the ways roots can be dried and stored for optimal potency. A variety of roots will be harvested for making your medicine for the day.

Lunch: What can we still munch on? Herbs and wild weeds are hardy and can be found in full splendor even as the first frost bites the earth. We will harvest and forage for plants to make a tasty fall soup.

Medicine Making: As we connect with the deeply nourishing properties of the roots you will learn how they can be utilized in delicious medicine. Create a flavorful mineral tonic perfect for the table or the medicine chest. This traditional preparation is used to aid in maintaining robust health through the winter.

Note: Each class students will receive handouts and the products made that day. Although there are lunch activities we encourage all students to bring supplemental food, so they can feel energetic and nourished throughout the day. All classes are weather contingent and subject to cancellation in the event of severe weather, participants will be notified upon assessment.
