LEVEL ONE HERBAL CERTIFICATION:

FOUNDATIONS IN BASIC HERBALISM

Formerly The Spirited Herbalist: A Plant-Guided Journey To Your-Self, this portion of our herbal studies program has been restructured to accommodate a broad audience of students, from the recent High School grad to the mom or dad with little ones at home, the person working a 40-hour week, the retiree who wants a new focus and healthier lifestyle or the person who wants a career-track in clinical herbal practice.

Students learn all the mechanics of making safe and effective herbal products. Discover the world of plants up close and personal, through sight, smell, taste and intuition, and discover how these versatile and brilliant beings work with us, supporting balance and vibrant health.  Anatomy and Physiology are explored from a blending of scientific, energetic and spiritual perspectives, showing the exquisite way the body is designed to work and how our mental, emotional and spiritual state affects its function -- guaranteed to be different from other A&P experiences you might have had!

Class time is balanced with lecture and experiential learning.  A comfortable and versatile classroom, flooded with natural light and views of the gardens, affords students the ability to choose seating that best suits their learning.  The well-equipped kitchen allows ample visual access of demonstrations as well as hands-on participation.

Homework assignments are designed to be interesting and fun as well as challenging and thought-provoking.  A dedicated Facebook group provides students a forum for discussion. Assignments, class notes and PowerPoints are posted here for easy access.

Practicum hours outside of class time provide the student with real-life harvesting and processing experience. The student spends one 5-hour day each month working hand in hand with the Harvest Manager learning the proper ways and timing of the herbal harvest. There is also opportunity to work directly with the medicine maker.

Teachers are experienced, dedicated and skilled herbalists, gardeners, medicine makers. They also serve as faculty advisors, each student being assigned a personal advisor to help ensure student success.
