Students in the Youth Herbalist Summer program will spend the week learning and exploring the gifts of Mother Earth in the gardens, forest, classroom and kitchen. While working independently and in small/whole groups, students will focus on basic native plant identification, their common uses and applications, and will take part in herbal wildcrafting. Through a mixture of direct instruction and experiential learning activities, students will gain an appreciation for Mother Earth and all that she has to offer. Students will learn to connect to plant energy and listen to their body, mind and spirit and will even enjoy a “Spa Day”, where emphasis will be placed on the importance of self care and nature's role in this aspect of wellness. Over the course of the week, students will participate in daily yoga and guided meditation, crafts, games and plant walks. The week will end with a day of celebration, reflection, affirmations and intention setting.

If you apply and pay the deposit online: after your application interview it is determined that your child will not participate in the Youth Herbalist Program, your deposit and associated processing fees will be refunded within 72 hours

Melissa McCormack is a clinical herbalist, Reflexologist, Reiki practitioner and professional educator, with a Master's degree in Education. With 18 years of teaching experience as an English teacher, Special Educator and Internship Coordinator, Melissa feels blessed with the opportunity to share her knowledge and passion for herbalism with children. As a mother of three young children, Melissa knew that she wanted to instill in her daughters an appreciation for Mother Earth and Her countless gifts, while empowering them to take control of their own physical and spiritual wellness; to teach them to dig in the dirt, savor the salt water on their toes and to find magic and wonder in each day. As her experience using herbs and incorporating them into her own family’s daily health and wellness grew, Melissa knew that it was time to combine her experience and expertise as an educator with her knowledge and enthusiasm for healing and wellness. Melissa began her formal herbal studies at Misty Meadows Herbal Center in Lee, NH, where she completed the Herbal Apprenticeship and Intermediate Herbal studies programs; a firm believer that learning is a lifelong pursuit, she continues to take advantage of opportunities for advanced herbal studies, in order to further her knowledge and skills as an herbalist. In addition, Melissa is the founder of Forget Not The Earth, a natural wellness products company, focused on crafting self-care products with intention. Melissa's extensive experience teaching students with a wide range of special needs has allowed her to craft a teaching style that ensures that she meets the diverse learning needs of all students through a variety of teaching modalities and formats. While Melissa enjoys the art of teaching, what she finds most rewarding is guiding students along their personal journeys, helping them to recognize the amazing gifts that they have to offer, while bringing awareness and understanding to the gifts that surround them each day, as they walk this Earth.
